NamWater promises to resolve Omatako Canal-issue in 3 weeks
NamWater anticipates resol-ving the issue of the dried-up Omatako Canal within the next three weeks, offering much-needed relief to some farmers relying on this water for agri-cultural purposes.
The canal has been dry for about a month now due to the inoperability of the pumps extracting water from the old Berg Aukas mine.
Initially, NamWater representatives assured distressed farmers that repairs to the malfunctioning pumps would be completed by Monday, January 15th, with water flowing once again.
However, numerous challenges were encountered when trying to replace the pumps, leading to the decision to send the pumps to Windhoek.
However, NamWater had ordered new pump stations from Germany last year, originally expected to arrive in Namibia by November.
Various challenges delayed the delivery, and these stations are now in the final stages of being transported to Namibia.
Once operational, these stations are poised to resolve the ongoing water supply issues. If all goes according to plan, the situation is expected to return to normal within the next three weeks.
